So those are the tools – resources – guidelines – curriculum books – but how do we use them for 5th and 8th Grade – leading into 9th grade Geography & Science?

Well – it varies – but I’ll walk you through part of last week’s geography lesson:

Music – We are learning Tchaikovsky in January
Geography – which led our Geography focus to Russia.
Art – Learning about Renior, working on a Pastel drawing from a photo
using primary colors, looking a a picture, using two tones of primary colors. Science Looking at Galloping The Globe – our science Thursday is to study Wolves.

Checking out books from the Library – we learned about the Kremlin Palace and Bellini’s.

We used the photos from the field guides to draw wolves –

P1020938

We answered questions about what they hunt, how to tell who the leader is, why they pant, and what parts of America the different varieties live in.

Then, we created an extra notebook page – like a scrapbook for our friends in Maryland. We sent them a scrapbook of what we learned on our trip to Russia and mailed it. We learned it took from Weds to Saturday to jump from the West coast to the East coast in an envelope.

We listened to Tchaikovsky, looked at pictures from Renoir, talked about the dogs in his paintings, talked about wolves in Russia, finished reading our library books, revisited our maps, created the scrapbook to mail – and then went to the beach. It flows.

Love the notebook entries. My kids are young and somewhat resistant, but I want to use notebooking with them. Yours are inspiring.
